A new Santa Monica blog

We are embarking on an effort to discover the local gems of Santa Monica. Where better to begin than by eating? Our first stop....Lares Restaurant, 2909 Pico Blvd. Lares is a Mexican restaurant that's been in business since 1968 and is now run by 2nd generation of Lares family members. They have fantastic lunch specials. We caught their Tuesday Tostada deal for $5.95 (normally $7-$9). Delicious ingredients, great guac, served with an excellent salsa of roasted tomatoes and chilis and homemade chips. The place was packed--a good sign in this economy. Live entertainment on weekend evenings and a number of fans have told us to head back for the breakfast. We look forward to doing just that....

  1. I agree Lares is fantastic. We are lucky in Santa Monica to have some other great Mexican choices. My favorites range from Panchos on Lincoln, Tacos Por Pavor on Olmpic and Gilberts on Pico to Border Grill on 4th and El Cholo on Wishsire. ¡salud!
